Pralaya – A Theatrical Soundtrack

Pralaya, although in a very early production phase, will be one of the most theatrical soundtrack-based albums I have presented to date. I am taking meticulous care not to let it turn into anything else. I set  out to encompass some of my personal beliefs and ideals into a musical soundtrack. Originally planned to take off where I left with the Eighth Sphere and False Sun, Pralaya seemed a much more suitable title.

Pralaya, in Hindu cosmology, is a period of time of the cycle of existence of the planets where activity does not occur. It lasts, according to computations of the Brahmins, 4,320,000,000 years. The period of activity, Kalpa, has the same duration.

360 Kalpas plus 360 Pralayas equals one “Year of Brahma.” The duration of 100 “Years of Brahma” forms a “Life of Brahma”, also called a Parama, lasting 311,040,000,000,000 years. This is, according to Madame Blavatsky, the period of activity of the cosmos, likewise followed by a period of inactivity, called Mahapralaya (Great pralaya), of equal duration.

In the Samkhya philosophy, one of the six schools of classical Indian philosophy, Pralaya means “non-existence, a state of matter achieved when the three gunas (principles of matter) are in perfect balance.

The word pralaya appears in the Cyclops chapter of James Joyce‘s epic novel Ulysses.

I am very excited. Plans for this album include a small montage video of very abstract and “new age” imagery which will accompany the album as a DVD. It will take some time and $$$, but I would much rather see this album go beyond most of my other work and be a little more representative of my personal style. As I said earlier, I won’t be adding any new material on the listener page until the entire project is complete. As of now I have uploaded a small and lightly tracked piece called “Shore Side” to give you an idea of the direction of the album. If you think my work is vague and abstract now, you will most likely be completely lost with this one. :)

In the end though, from the recordings and early tracking I have been doing, I think for those who really like to turn on music for relaxation and/or meditation this album will be the one for you. I also have plans to release this album with full insert art and a booklet with passages from various spiritual works to emphasize the tracks. Most of these tracks run around 5-8  minutes in length and offer a very focused approach to a certain mood and ideal. With all this in mind, the album looks like it will be a while in the making and will be solely based on the sales and work I can get this upcoming year. The funding for a project like this runs in the $3,000 range and I am just like every other musician out there – scraping the barrel. :)

If you have been interested in my work for some time and visit the site regularly, I ask that you please donate to the project and help me reach my goal quicker. Everything you contribute goes right back into the music and the work I do here on the site. I have a full-time job, music is just a hobby. :)

Thanks, and I look forward to releasing this project!
