What can hiring a composer do for you?

Whether it is a film or game project you are working on, you spend a lot of creative energy making it a reality. You shouldn't be settling with royalty-free, looped library music for the sonic foundation of something you have spent so much time making exactly how you want it to be...should you? Key things to know right off the bat about what you get from me:

  • The music I provide you IS Royalty Free!
  • It's completely original - made JUST for YOU!
  • I provide loads of options, discounts, and incentives for all types of projects!

Bottom line...

If you need quality, original music for your upcoming film, game, or interactive media project then you have come to the right place. With over 20 years of experience and around $30K worth of equipment, invite me to put my time and skills to work for you.

An Unbeatable Music Composition & Production Service

If you've already done some research, you might have found that most music "solutions" on the net meet one of the following criteria:

  • They cost way too much and deliver very little
  • They claim to provide original music but sell royalty free tracks instead
  • Customer service is horrible and they place less emphasis on the client and more on getting paid
  • They offer a cheap production chain and are unable to deliver a complete package - true of most independent composers out there

Lucky for you, I am a one-stop shop for most creative music services. In short, I write and produce original music for film and game projects based on the specifications and direction provided by my clients. There are no royalty free tracks, endless loop libraries, or "one size fits all" solutions in my arsenal of sound. Instead, I use some of the most cutting edge VSTi (Virtual Sound Technology Instruments) and sampled acoustic instruments to create a custom-fit solution for your project.

Skill Set

I am very honest when I advertise my work. Bottom line: No one is good at everything!

Below is a chart to help you quickly see how I rate myself in select music genres. Any item that is yellow represents a type of project that I am usually cautious to take on and any item marked red is one which I may redirect to a better solution based on client specifications.

Genre Skill Rating Chart

This table is by no means an end all be all, concrete wall. It is, however, a very close approximation of my current skills and interests. In the end you are buying a creative service. It is a little like buying a painting at an art store; you are paying for a work of art. The reality of music composition is that it is about 60% client direction, which consists of words, phrases, scenes, picture etc. provided by the client, and 40% artist interpretation and skill. If someone has told you that they can do it all, they are likely a source to avoid (especially if they charge a retainer for their service)!

This table applies to the full spectrum of music services I offer to include (but not limited to):

  • Original Composition
  • Mixing and Sound Editing
  • Artist Production Work

If you have any questions about the types of projects I work on, please don't hesitate to contact me and schedule a free initial consultation.

I will be the first to tell you if I am not the man for your job! If your genre is not listed, just contact me and see if I am up to the task!

With around 300 personal tracks and demos on my site, you have a huge palette of very diverse material to listen to. Even though I demo my own personal projects here on the site too, be sure to listen to my professional sound reel and even watch some select video and game clips from projects I have worked on!

What I Do

I provide original music tailored to your project. Whether it be a film (short or feature length), a console game, a flash animation, machinima, you name it. I take the time to get to know you, your expectations, and the direction and goal of your project and then I weave a complimentary sound‐scape to match it at a very affordable and competitive price. Unlike traditional composers, I also produce and perform the music myself and deliver your audio files directly to you in a lossless format.

Scoring services are currently limited. For productions that require scoring services for post production and/or live performance, please contact me directly.

What I Don't Do

Unlike many other cheap alternatives on the net, you just happened to stumble upon a website for a business operated by someone who has a musical background, not a DJ, garage band, or gear enthusiast, but someone who genuinely loves to make great art. Don't let my cheap prices and personal demeanor fool you, I love my work and I am dedicated to making my brand stand out ‐ you win, and I win from my hard work. I am not a loop artist who utilizes overused loop libraries. On the contrary, I perform or score (note for note) the entire product for your project ‐ period! Painting a masterpiece is not easily achieved with common stencils, and in music it is analogous with trying to use loops to make something unique and complimentary to the multitudes of projects that are out there.

Your End Product

You get a lossless digital audio file tracked to meet the FPS specifications of your film. I do not edit or encode video; The video you provide me is only a landmark for my research and tracking. Games, on the other hand, rely on art, direction, and storyboard information. Game music is meant to be loop‐able, but not apparent.

Communication Tools

All interaction with me is via:

  • Phone
  • Email
  • IM
  • Your client site
  • In person by appointment (San Antonio and surrounding areas only)

I use these routes to save time and money. Believe me, you will get what you want. I am as much a stickler for good service and a quality product as you are, and your business is my fuel. I make it as easy as possible to work digitally with a freelancer (myself). I provide 100% technical support for all the technology that you will use when working with me (and believe me it is not hard stuff).

  • Purchasing my work...

I am currently working on getting the store back up and running. If you haven't noticed, the site has undergone an upgrade (hopefully the last major one for a while). So, it will take some time to get the new e-commerce suite up and running and the catalogue populated. As usual, PayPal is my primary payment gateway and none of your financial information is exchanged on this site!

  • Availability...

I am currently not accepting any new commissions. I expect to start accepting new commissions after February 2012. I am, however, still giving quotes on projects that are starting after February 1st, 2012. So if you have something coming up during that time frame, let me know!

Customer Survey

I like to run periodic surveys to help me meet the needs and requests of my customers. Please take a moment and let me know how important receiving a printed score is to you and the types of projects you work on. For instance, if you hire me to write the music for your short film, do you think it is necessary to receive a printed score as a product of the commission?

Is a Score Necessary?
