Logos Review

I submitted Logos last month for review and have yet to hear anything back regarding the release of that review. I have been checking nervously everyday, looking to see the art work posted and a link to another (insert your own word here) review. Time will tell and I can only hope that my optimism pays off.

Black and Basic Release

Work and all the other trials and tribulations of life have set both albums in a limbo stage. Most of the tracks on both albums are close to ready, but I am not rushing the final process. Hopefully the releases will still happen this month, however, most likely it will be near the end of it.

Upcoming Releases

Pralaya, Aphotic Transmissions, and Walking with Myths are all on hiatus. I have decided to work very slowly through these albums and you will more than likely see a different side to my blogging than usual. I have spewed pretentious release information before only to regret it later and thus it will not be happening anymore.

Custom built CPUs/DAWs and Online Store changes

As I said before, I am excited to be able to expand my services into the technical realm of audio computing. Artists now days need a stable and powerful center to run their digital playground. I have decided to go with three basic setups (to start with), all on Intel boards, flaunting excellent, cutting edge technology such as: DDR3 Triple Channel ECC RAM sporting both the Xeon, i7, and Core Duo processors. The high-end board will be a dual quad-core setup with astounding capabilities, either a server processor such as the Xeon, or the i7. Of course, I bargain shop all the time and I have excellent suppliers that send me the components at great deals, after which I hand craft each one into monstrous melody makers.

Possibly one of my strongest points has been the years upon years of being a serious computer enthusiast. I can safely and assuredly pass on great offers on packages that offer the most for your money. As for the completion – or even initial setup for that matter – there is no time frame currently in place. I have been unsuccessful in reaching my main site designer to begin the plans and nothing starts moving until he or the others I contacted start talking back. More information will follow regarding the three packages and hopefully a possible outlook on what’s happening with the store. Studio Upgrades

The studio is slated for a system wide upgrade at the beginning of next year. If you follow my tweets, or use a similar lineup, you probably know why it will have to wait until then.

Site Client Area

Using a very sleek project management system, I will be moving all my older and present client projects to a newly envisioned client area. Your experience will be streamlined much more with such features as: automated payments, easy approval processes, graphic time tables, and entry based file management. I will send an email to all clients containing your access information.

To close it up, October has been one hell of a month.

Wow, thanks to an oversight on my part and new Silent Ballet guidelines, Logos is just now being submitted for a review. I am uploading the files to the server as I type. I am optimistic in hearing what the review team thinks of the album. The Darkness received a 6.5/10 rating, I would love to see Logos hit a 7.5 or 8! I really think I approached Logos with a focus, more so than with The Darkness, and hope that they see that.

Logos – An Intimate Album

With my final release of Logos, my mind has started remembering what this album was all about. It rests on the deep depression I was in throughout the early part of 2009. I remember popping out the basic structure of most of the songs in just under 2 days. They came smooth and steady from a wellspring of dark depravity and seemed to be therapeutic, while each flourished as very “intimate” and well written songs (IMHO). Logos is a perfect example of my personal therapy. The album connects deeply, albeit in a different compositional style using different arrangements, with The Darkness. Both albums tell a story – more like different pieces of one story, or two sides of the same coin. In all honesty Black carries on this tradition, but in a decidedly more focused way. I will start working on the behind the music articles once again now that I have time.

If being a musician could be analogized to authoring, my “book” would be in a categorically similar sequence. I took this idea, or mode of thought – if you will, to new heights when choosing the lineup for the upcoming albums. The Darkness has been “written” since early 2007 and Logos started forming relatively around early 2008/late 2007-ish. From the many compositions that I originally planned to be on the albums, I have cut and re-thought the track lists to fit this ever-evolving book of tales. I am quite happy to see that Logos embodied some of the same concepts that The Darkness pushed so well even with its very sparse acoustic arrangements. I am not saying that the album is perfect in every detail, but I have grown to be quite attached with the honesty in my music from that period. Therefore, Logos will remain a very intimate album that lies close to my own heart. With all that in mind, your feedback and opinions on this release would be greatly appreciated.

As a writer, performer, and producer I often get wired up in the production of each of my albums. Every beat, key, and sample is written and placed note for note by only myself. Some of these projects have spanned massive amounts of time (years). While their release dates got pushed further and further back, I started to regret throwing out such confining information near the end of their production. Even with all the many obstacles I have encountered with the technology, my one payoff in the end is the hope that a listener will write me an email and provide me with their honest response to my work. These songs mean the world to me, but my judgement is biased. In the end this site, these albums, and my business are about self expression and utilizing my creative perception to fulfill dreams. Music is a beautiful art, even if it slowly fades from our schools. I will continue to do as I have done and hope that my own artistic opinions take you somewhere close to where I was when I wrote it.

Logos is available for listening to and also available for purchase on the online store. Later this week I will have the MP3′s uploaded to Payloadz, but I need a break today.

I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labor as this album is very special to me and was an experiment that ended up being more than I ever could have hoped for. Some of my favs on this release are Victor and In Obscurity, to name a couple. However, I am proud of every song on this album and hate to choose one over the other. I will wait to see what my listeners think.

Logos finally nearing completion

Well after many set backs and alterations, Logos will finally make its way onto CD. I only have three songs left to finish up: Victor, Say Nothing, and Collage. All three require the vocals to be re-recorded. I should have the MP3 player back up on the site by Monday with the new mixes. It has been a very fun project and it has also been a learning experience as I came to better understand acoustic sampling and arranging. I will be happy to focus my efforts on Black and Basic, but I am seriously considering a followup album like Logos that is centered around acoustic performance and more traditional song writing.

Logos Weekend Work

I just wanted to throw in a quick update while I’m on here. I should have some time this weekend to work on the remaining Logos tracks. I hate not having them out for listeners – Logos is one my favorite releases. The vocal parts are the only thing holding me up currently. There were lots of issues with the bass frequencies on the acoustic Mexican guitar samples, so I have been steadily working to evolve each mix and bring the most out of them I can. I want this album to convey the same beautiful imagery that it was meant to when I was writing it. After I finish with Logos, I will be moving on to finally mix the tracks on Black and Basic. Both albums should be available by November-December 09. After all is said and done this year, I might have some serious time to revisit Walking with Myths and False Sun (Eighth Sphere). Only time and work will tell.

The end of June has come and gone and I am still not even close to finishing Logos. This month brought loads of unforeseen preoccupations which have demanded almost all of my time. I did manage to completely mix and compile 7 of the 13 tracks. The songs with vocals are being pushed back until later when I can actually find time to focus my efforts and state of mind on the atmosphere of Logos. I would hate to ruin and/or completely divert from the original path of the album. Hopefully early July – that is my best guess.

I am spending the next week and a half finishing up Logos. I have a few new ideas for some of the Black tracks including arrangement modifications and additions for songs like Purple, Plush Kingdom, and others. I seem to have run into some issues – for reasons still unknown – with my M-Audio FW410 Audio interface. This is slowing down my ability to write and record live audio parts such as Guitars and Vocals. I know it has something to do with Cubase’s device setup, but I have not altered any buffer or latency adjusting settings…(?)

This has never happened before and is quite frustrating. As soon as I can get things rolling again, I will start working out the last modifications to Logos and then I will be taking that break I mentioned a few days back. I need a little “recharge” time. On top of all these little mishaps I have slowly progressed into a severe case of shin splints and ankle problems, all of which came to a pinnacle at my recent 400 meter competition yesterday. I won, but now I am feeling the pain….yay.

I will be finished with Logos next weekend (possibly sooner, but not later than). I’ve taken the older mixes off the site and will put the new ones up as soon as I print my Master. This has been a long time coming, but I am glad to have both of them finished. This time I mean it! If only scheduling would work out the way it should.

As of now Logos is looking more like an end of month goal. I have to re-record most of the vocals due to the crappy recording conditions I accepted in the initial recordings. I catch more than I used to – I am not much of a vocal guy and most of the time is being spent on that alone. The mixes just needed some tweaking on the bass and drum parts. The originals had loads of reverb and too many similar frequency timbres etc. fighting for room. I will be working on it as I find time, but decided not to rush it. Besides, it’s not like people are beating down my door to get a copy.

The Darkness Ready to go!

I uploaded the FINISHED(!!!) Darkness tracks today. Each track has been remixed and in some cases completely re-arranged. The Darkness will be available as both a tangible and digital product starting June 1st. You can also pick and choose tracks individually as 320 kb MP3 files if you only want a few. Logos will be completely finished next weekend and I expect it to be ready for distribution by June 5th.

Logos will be released on the 08th of April. Unforeseen drawbacks have arisen which have caused the release to be delayed a week. I’m sorry for the wait, I am very excited and anxious to release the albums and continue working on future projects.

I added two new tracks to the list of songs that will be realeased on Logos. The two tracks decidedly fit very well into the “acoustic” theme the album is trying to represent. They are “Pieces of Me” and “Vagrant Story.”

CDs will be shipped via the National Postal service until I get the online store operational, at which point UPS, FED-EX and priority mail will be available. I also look forward to making the songs available in MP3 format.

I have decided to release Logos and a re-released version of The Darkness together on April 01, 2009. Both albums will be available through Paypal’s online secure server. I was hoping to have the store up and running before releasing the albums, but the budget for online projects is crunched until late 09 at which point there will be a fully designed and easily navigated Zen Cart store here on the site. All payments will still run through Paypal, but the option to purchase Albums and individual Mp3′s will be available. I also have plans to make CD versions of user requested tracks available for purchase – easily done through Zen Cart. This is for you hard-copy guys who like to keep CDs around still.

All of the songs on Logos are completely tracked, excluding “My Friend,” and should be mixed and ready to go as planned for an early 09 release. I am very proud of how the album turned out for the most part. There are always things I could add, and probably will – so don’t let the versions on the site fool you. I am looking into mastering this album in-state, as versus my original plan to try out Massive Mastering. As soon as the budget permits, Logos will be ready to ship!

WordPress / Joomla Update

The WordPress theme will be undergoing some modifications and may throw off the look and functionality of the system. I have chosen to go with Joomla as a backend CMS for clients, and intend to have it up and running by the end of the month. The site itself is finished, excluding minor modifications to the look and layout as well as implementing the PHP/MyQL connections. Anticipation is rising on my end for the release and stability of the site. The more I can put into it before its inception the better I will feel with assuming it’s possible lengthy life-span.

Logos will be undergoing an onslaught of mixing and re-mixing until I can get that beautiful and polished darkness that is inherent in it’s purpose. Bottom line is that my goal is to write for film and games. The site is the first step to creating an online presence that is both attractive and fully able to meet the customer’s needs. The second step will carry out into the next year – a massive PR campaign starting with PR Web and a slew of networking on my part. The music will be slimmed down and categorized by theme. I don’t expect to organize any album releases after Logos and Black for quite some time. The sheer amount of time needed to run my own PR campaign will occupy way too much of my time as is. All releases available on the site will still be maintained in their full-length versions until I change my mind.

Many of the older songs will still be updated, and the track list for Black has almost been realized. Logos will get a first class work-up through Massive Mastering and won’t be actually released as originally planned. I will update the Logos information as it comes available. For now – keep listening and know that I enjoy sharing my little world with you everyday.
