Back in August of 2009 I announced the project entitled “Pralaya.” Since that time it has been pushed aside and moved under for other projects. I knew what I wanted from the album, but was unable to express it until now. Project Pralaya is my next big move here on the site. It will not be released as a CD, instead it will debut as a horror/mystery film showcase along with other material on my upcoming client sample DVD. As of now, all the tracks and original concept art are all about to change. The sample DVD will be discussed later, and it will be highly theme and genre based instrumentals designed to showcase my work on film and game media. More will follow.

I added a few tracks to the Pralaya set against my initial intentions. I have tried not to hype this album up as much, freeing me from stressing over the details, to allow me to focus on the music itself rather than the reception. While I still anticipate this to be released as a DVD, I have also played around with the idea of packaging it as a CD in an upcoming box collection – so to speak. Anyway, I don’t want to sit here and push words so just check it out and let me know what you think. I actually enjoy the direction of this set.

Pralaya, although in a very early production phase, will be one of the most theatrical soundtrack-based albums I have presented to date. I am taking meticulous care not to let it turn into anything else. I set out to encompass some of my personal beliefs and ideals into a musical soundtrack. Originally planned to take off where I left with the Eighth Sphere and False Sun, Pralaya seemed a much more suitable title.

Pralaya, in Hindu cosmology, is a period of time of the cycle of existence of the planets where activity does not occur. It lasts, according to computations of the Brahmins, 4,320,000,000 years. The period of activity, Kalpa, has the same duration.

360 Kalpas plus 360 Pralayas equals one “Year of Brahma.” The duration of 100 “Years of Brahma” forms a “Life of Brahma”, also called a Parama, lasting 311,040,000,000,000 years. This is, according to Madame Blavatsky, the period of activity of the cosmos, likewise followed by a period of inactivity, called Mahapralaya (Great pralaya), of equal duration.

In the Samkhya philosophy, one of the six schools of classical Indian philosophy, Pralaya means “non-existence, a state of matter achieved when the three gunas (principles of matter) are in perfect balance.

The word pralaya appears in the Cyclops chapter of James Joyce‘s epic novel Ulysses.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am very excited. Plans for this album include a small montage video of very abstract and “new age” imagery which will accompany the album as a DVD. It will take some time and $$$, but I would much rather see this album go beyond most of my other work and be a little more representative of my personal style. As I said earlier, I won’t be adding any new material on the listener page until the entire project is complete. As of now I have uploaded a small and lightly tracked piece called “Shore Side” to give you an idea of the direction of the album. If you think my work is vague and abstract now, you will most likely be completely lost with this one.

In the end though, from the recordings and early tracking I have been doing, I think for those who really like to turn on music for relaxation and/or meditation this album will be the one for you. I also have plans to release this album with full insert art and a booklet with passages from various spiritual works to emphasize the tracks. Most of these tracks run around 5-8 minutes in length and offer a very focused approach to a certain mood and ideal. With all this in mind, the album looks like it will be a while in the making and will be solely based on the sales and work I can get this upcoming year. The funding for a project like this runs in the $3,000 range and I am just like every other musician out there – scraping the barrel.

If you have been interested in my work for some time and visit the site regularly, I ask that you please donate to the project and help me reach my goal quicker. Everything you contribute goes right back into the music and the work I do here on the site. I have a full-time job, music is just a hobby.

Thanks, and I look forward to releasing this project!

Pralaya will become what is left of “The Eighth Sphere”, also known as False Sun. I will have the demos on the site before the release of Black and Basic in November. The album will be similar to The Darkness with very subtle shifts toward a lighter atmosphere. Many of the tracks originally planned to be released on the False Sun album are already good to go, so I expect this album to be released well before Walking with Myths. I will post more info as it comes available.

I have a couple of very exciting new projects in mind I would like to work on. Before the release of Black and Basic in November you will most likely see these two new projects on the listener page. One will be a very dark and ambient piece, packaged with Walking with Myths; The album has yet to be given a name. My original intention of continuing the False Sun album has all but died due to content. However, the remaining tracks will become part of one of the three discs shipped with WWM. The album will be as dark as my creativity can conjure and demo some of the best mood setting material I have ever done (IMO). WWM will be broken up into multiple flash players covering the three CD’s that make it up.

The second project will be a very hard album with loads of distortion and heavy guitar riffs. I am trying to branch out into an action environment and demonstrate my own signature ideas in an Industrial environment. I look forward to bringing these two projects on the site.

False Sun is still far into the future, but I decided to add the title track, “False Sunlight” to the Unreleased player for listening. As I mentioned in another post, this album will be even farther left than The Darkness set out to be. It will consist of some very abstract and non-linear compositions that are meant to take the listener “somewhere else” entirely. Most of the tracks were written back in 2006, and none of them are available on the site. I took them down a long time ago to freshen up the mixes – they really needed it.

This will give me chance to really explore my creative side. The songs are very vague and I mean them to be that way – that’s the really hard material to write IMO. Of course I won’t actually get a chance to work on this until I finish Logos, Black and Basic – but False Sunlight is the closest thing I have to being tracked at the moment so I thought I would add it.

Edited – 13 September 2009: False Sun is currently being packaged as a DVD project called Pralaya. The above information has changed since its release.
