Dreamscapes

Dreamscapes is one of my oldest songs, originally written in the late 90's on a cheap old Casio piano; I have re-arranged it three times since I moved to Cubase and the professional audio production world. Dreamscapes stands out on Logos as a very simple song (a play on F#Maj/F#min/C#Maj) using intricate rhythms that push the listener forward into the message of the lyrics.

I wrote the song about a few different things, all of which have everything to do with each other. It was based on a series of dreams I had as a child that "I made important in my life" and have a lot to do with the naming of the site and a lot to do with most of the Aphotic Transmissions tracks. While these ideals still play an important role in my life, the ideas and thoughts based around these dreams have all but subsided; That is why AT is considered a fable's end.

Dreamscapes was about an Utopian ideal of mine that inter-played with some old occult-religious ideals that still haven't fully matured. The figures in the dream were obscure but the meaning was clear. This has always been the odd feature of these dreams and has led me to usually appreciate intrinsic meaning over extrinsic appearances - which often yield inappropriate solutions to an already misidentified problem.

Again, as with all the other tracks, Dreamscapes sports the classical guitar along side the deep and expressive Mexican bass. The simplicity of the chord progression makes it very compatible with a complex rhythm and set of counter rhythms. The drone shift from major to minor, especially for me when I use F# in this song, keeps a constant tension to be relieved in an occasional drop to C#Maj. It is nothing special musically, but it serves to remind me of my past when I had no knowledge or access to Cubase or a system capable of producing such layered compositions.

The end product is a little trip down memory lane, that serves its part as a track on an album dedicated to reforming my psychological outlook on life in a very minimalistic and intimate way.
