Do you write Orchestral Music?
Not very often. Orchestration is an art "in and of itself," but I have dabbled with it in the past and had very successful results (B-Sides and Aphotic Transmissions). I guess it all depends on the complexity and type of music required. I tend to take more of a hybrid approach to orchestral pieces when a client asks for them. By Hybrid, I mean that I often interlace traditional orchestral instruments into an electronic/acoustic warp. My specialty when working with natural timbre instrumentation is by far small, intimate ensembles. I tend to have a much greater control over the timbre and expression of my pieces in this type of atmosphere.
One of the main reasons for this hybrid approach is the complexity in providing a completely "natural" orchestral piece using sampled instrument libraries like East West or Vienna. Afterall, I aim to provide you with a completely finished product. Scoring and orchestration is not my specialty. Scoring services provided by me are limited to melodic parts such as vocals with lyrics and small ensembles. Another main reason, is that I do not use Sibelius. The demand for this service is too low to invest wholly in it.
